Kitty has a nice pet. P

It can sing a sweet song. P

She has just fed it. P

She will now put it in the cage, and hang the cage up. P

Then the cat can not catch it. P

Kitty loves animals. P

But the animals don't like each other. P

That is why she hangs the cage up. P

The cat is waiting for Kitty to leave. P

Lesson 3-4

Oh, Ben! Let me get in, will you? P

Yes, if you will sit still. P

Stand still, Jip, and let Ann get in. P

Now, Ben, hand me the whip. P

Get up, Jip! P

Don't whip Jip too hard. P

He doesn't like getting whipped. P

Okay, Ben. P

Are we close to home yet? P

Soon. Don't worry, we'll be home before dinner. P

Lesson 3-6

There is ice on the pond, and the mill wheel can not go round. P

The boys are all out on the ice with their skates. P

I will let you and Tom try to skate; but do not fall, for you will be hurt. P

Look! Here come the cars. P

John and Nat try to skate as fast as the cars go, but they can not. P

John has had a fall. P

The girls are not on the pond. P

Some of them have skates which roll on the floor. P

Lesson 3-7

Is this not a dear baby in the crib? P

Her name is Kate, and she has big, blue eyes. P

You can not see her eyes, for they are shut. P

Kate is a good baby; but she will cry if she is hurt, or if she is not well. P

Bess likes to sit near the baby, and to rock her in the crib. P

The baby is very fat. P

The baby loves to sleep. P

Lesson 3-8

What kind of house is this? P

Do you think it is a schoolhouse or a church? P

It looks like a church, but I think it is a schoolhouse. P

I see the boys and girls with their books and slates. P

When the bell rings, they will go in. P

A good child likes to go to school. P

You learn a lot from school. P

You meet a lot of your friends at school. P

Lesson 3-9

Look out for the cars! P

How fast they come! P

No horse can go as fast as the cars. P

I will not try to catch them, for I should fall and be hurt. P

See the horse look at the cars. Will he not run? P

The man is stopping the horse from going across. P

The boy and his dad are going hunting. P

The boy does not want to go hunting. P

Lesson 3-11

Here are some girls with skates, but they are not on the ice. P

Their skates roll on the floor. P

Which way do you like to skate? On the ice, or on the floor. P

The girl with the new black dress is Jane Bell. P

Anne is new to skating. P

Jane is a very good skater. P

Elizabeth is gliding on her skates. P

Mary is holding onto Jane's hands. P

Lesson 3-12

The ship has run into a rock. P

Five men are on the ship. P

If the boat can not get to them, they will drown. P

The boat has brave men in it. P

They will save the five men. P

The men are rowing hard to get to land. P

Water is getting in the boat. P

A huge storm is coming. P

The men are getting sea sick. P

The leader is guiding the men. P

Lesson 3-13

This house is on fire. P

Look! The roof is in a blaze. P

Run, boys, and ring the bell. P

Call some men to put out the fire. P

We may yet save the house, if we work hard. P

We need to call fire fighters. P

I hope there is no one in the house. P

The day is very hot. P

The man with the blue suit is looking for help. P

Lesson 3-14

The sun is up. P

The man has fed the black hen and the fat duck. P

Now the duck will swim in the pond. P

The hen has run to her nest. P

Let us not stop at the pond now, for it is hot. P

See how still it is! We will go to see Tom and his top. P

The man and the girl begin walking to go see Tom. P

Lesson 3-16

Ned is on the box. P

He has a pen in his hand. P

A big rat is in the box. P

Can the dog catch the rat? P

Come with me, Ann. P

And see the man with a black hat on his head. P

The fat hen has left the nest. P

Run, Nat, and get the eggs. P

We need the eggs so that we can make boiled eggs! P

The rat was looking for food. P

Lesson 3-17

Sue has a doll and a pet bird. P

Her doll has a new dress and a cap. P

Sue loves Mary, and will let her hold the doll. P

The pet bird lives in a cage. P

Sue and Mary will stand by the cage, and the bird will sing. P

There are birds in the tree by the pond. P

Can you see them? P

Yes, there are five of them in a nest. P

Tom will not rob a bird's nest. P

He is too kind to do so. P

Lesson 3-18

Oh, Kate! The old cow is in the pond. See her drink! P

Will she not come out to get some grass? P

No, John, she likes to be in the pond. P

See how still she stands! P

The dear old cow gives us sweet milk to drink. P

How should we bring the old cow out? P

I think we need to push the cow out. P

That doesn't sound too easy. P

That's because it's not small. P

Lesson 3-19

Do you see Nell? P

Yes, she has a pan with some eggs in it. P

Let me have the pan and the eggs, will you, Nell? P

Has the black hen left the nest? P

I will now run to catch Rab. P

Will you run, too? P

The hens do not seem happy that Nell took their eggs. P

What will you do with the eggs? P

Make sure you don't break those eggs! P

Walk very carefully! P
