★ that의 특별용법
- 선행사 앞에서 the only, the same, the very, the last및 서수, 최상급의 형용사
등이 선행사를 한정할 때
Ex) Man is the only animal that can speak. 사람은 말할 수 있는 유일한 동물이다.
Ex) Neil Armstrong was the first man that landed on the moon.

Neil Armstrong이 달나라에 착륙한 첫 번째 사람이었다.
Ex) He is the smartest man that I‘ve ever known.

그는 내가 아는 사람 중에 가장 똑똑한 사람이다.

- 선행사가 부정대명사 all, any, no, some, little, every, -thing, -body 등일 때
Ex) All that glitters is not gold. 반짝이는 것이 다 금은 아니다.
Ex) Everybody that goes to church looks happy.  교회에 다니는 모든 사람들은 행복해 보인다.
Ex) I can give you anything that you need. 난 네가 필요한 어떤 것도 줄 수 있다.

- 선행사가 의문대명사 who, what, which 등인 경우, 또는 의문대명사가 있는 의문문 속에서
Ex) Who that has common sense can do such a thing? 상식이 있는 그 누가 그런 짓을 할 수 있을까?

- 선행사가「사람+동물(사물)」일 때
Ex) Look at the girl and her dog are coming this way. 이쪽으로 오고 있는 소녀와 강아지를 보아라.
Ex) The car and the driver that fell into the river were not found. 강에 빠진 그 차와 운전자는 발견되지 못했다.

- It is ～ that …」강조구문에서
Ex) It was Jane that[who] bought a hat yesterday. 어제 모자를 샀던 사람은 바로 제인이었다.

- 관계대명사 that이 전치사의 목적어로 쓰이는 경우, 전치사는 that 앞에 쓰이지 못하며, 원래의 위치에 그대로 둔다.
Ex) This is the book that I spoke of the other day. (○) 이것이 바로 요전 날 말했던 그 책이다.
Ex) This is the book of that I spoke the other day. (×)

- 관계대명사 that은 계속적 용법으로 사용할 수 없다.
Ex) He said nothing, that made her more angry. (x)
