(6) 형용사 수식

Ex) This problem is difficult to solve. (해결하기가 어려운)

Ex) You should not be foolish to make such a mistake. (그런 실수를 저지를 정도로 어리석은)

(7) 부사 수식

Ex) He is not old enough to go to school. (그는 학교에 갈만큼 충분히)

Ex) He was wise enough to avoid quarreling with him. (그와의 말다툼을 피할 정도로)

* too∼to 구문:

(1) too∼to 가 부정을 내포하는 경우: 「…하기에는 너무 ~하다(너무~해서 …할 수 없다) 」

Ex) You are too young to read this book.

=You are so young that you can`t read this book.

Ex) He is too wise not to realize it.

=He is so wise that he can`t but realize it.

Ex) A man is not too old to learn.

=A man is not so old that he can`t learn.

=However old a man may be, he can learn.

(2) too∼to 가 긍정을 내포하는 경우

too∼to 앞에 only가 오는 경우 「...하면, 매우...하다.」

Ex) I shall be only too glad to help you.

too∼to 사이에 apt, ready, inclined, liable 등이 오는 경우 「걸핏하면...한다, ...하기 쉽다.」

Ex) He is too apt to tell a lie

* enough to: ~할 정도로 …하다

Ex) The chair was strong enough to support his weight.

의자는 그의 무게를 지탱할 수 있을 만큼 튼튼했다.

= The chair was so strong that it could support his weight.

5) 기타

(1) 원형부정사

사역동사(make, have, let, help…) 뒤에는 원형부정사(to가 없는 부정사)를 쓴다.

(단, 사역동사 get은 to부정사를 사용)

Ex) My mother made me do the homework after school.

엄마는 내게 방과후 숙제를 하도록 시키셨다.

Ex) Let me know whether or not you're interested.

네가 관심이 있는지 없는지 내게 알려달라. (내가 알게 해주어라.)

(2) 의문사(why 제외) + to 부정사

Ex) I was so embarrassed that I didn’t know what to say.

나는 너무 당황해서 무슨 말을 해야 할 지 몰랐다.
