4)부정사의 부사적 용법

(1) 목적

Ex) I stood up to see better. (나는 더 잘 보기 위하여 자리에서 일어섰다.)

Ex) I`ve come here to have a talk with you. (나는 너와 이야기 하기 위하여 여기에 왔다.)

Ex) I called to ask after your health. (나는 너의 건강을 붇기 위하여 전화를 걸었다.)

(2) 결과

Ex) I awoke to find myself famous. (내가 깨어나 보니 나 자신이 유명해져 있었다.)

Ex) She opened the box to find it empty. (그녀는 상자를 열었으나 비어있는 것을 발견했다.)

Ex) He left his country never to return. (그는 그의 나라를 떠나서는 다시는 돌아오지 않았다.)

(3) 원인

Ex) I`m very glad to see you here. (나는 너를 여기서 보니 기뻐다.)

Ex) She was surprised to hear the news. (그녀는 소식을 듣고서 놀랐다.)

Ex) I'm sorry to lose my temper with you. (내가 너에게 화를 내서 미안하다.)

(4) 이유(판단의 원인)「... 하다니」

Ex) He must be a gentleman to behave like that. (그가 그처럼 행동하다니 신사임에 틀림없다.)

Ex) How lucky you are to win the first prize! (1등을 하다니 알마나 운이 좋으니!)

(5) 조건

Ex) You would be foolish to do it. (....한다면 너는 어리석은 짓이야)

Ex) To hear him talk, you would take him for a genius. (그가 이야기하는 것을 들어본단면, )

Ex) I should be very glad to accompany you. (너와 함께 한다면, ....)
